ScienceDaily reports (Read full article) that omega-3s from fish is much more effective to fight cancer, inhibiting tumor development and growth. 

The research team studied the effects of plant-based and fish-based omega-3s on mice with a highly aggressive form of human breast cancer called HER-2. The study found that the size of the tumors reduced by 60 to 70 percent and the number of tumors by 30 percent for fish-based omega-3s.  For the same impact, much higher doses of plant-based omega-3s were required.  Based on the study the team recommends 2 to 3 servings of fish a week to achieve a similar result and effective prevention.  It is believed that omega-3s will prove effective against other types of cancers as well. 

There are multiple foods rich in omega-3s like flaxseeds, walnuts, salmon, sardines, etc.  Vegetarian folks can try cod liver oil tablets, which are easily available.   One of the mixture (rich in omega-3s)that my doctor has recommended for general well-being and good metabolism to me and my wife (not kids) is as follows : 

1 Measure of Flax seeds + 1/3 measure of til (sesame seeds) + 1/3 measure of pumpkin seeds + 1/3 measure of sunflower seeds

Consume 1 tablespoon a day.
